Cultural Diversity series
We serve all levels of public safety professionals, from those who are about to join the field to those in command positions. We have something for everyone.
Our foundational course. Aimed at recruits and any personnel new to any public safety agency, but completely customizable for any rank. Through museum exhibits, survivor testimony, and workshops, this course examines the intersection of ethics, values, and community trust.
Designed for personnel seeking to deepen their understanding of building community trust, this course examines why professionalism alone is not always enough to build trust, and what can be done to foster stronger relationships. Through interactive exhibits, guided analysis, and practical discussion, participants explore the historical context that shapes public perceptions of safety professionals and examine how current practices can either strengthen or undermine trust. Participants will gain practical tools and strategies to improve communication with community members, colleagues, and other public safety professionals.
For senior leaders, those responsible for the cultures, policies, and practices of the institutions they lead. This course asks: how do you keep your institution from losing legitimacy, and what is your role in the fact that it already has? Through survivor testimony, exhibit engagement, historical and institutional analysis, and a structured action-planning process, participants develop the leadership frameworks, diagnostic tools, and structural commitments to exercise institutional authority with accountability and to redirect institutional drift before it becomes culture.
POST-certified for specific leadership tracks and state mandates
Designed as an extension of prior SLI sessions, this course uses the museum environment to deepen participants’ understanding of key leadership concepts, including scapegoating, proactive versus reactive mindsets, groupthink, responsibility, and accountability. Through historical exhibits, facilitated discussion, and reflective analysis, participants examine how these themes have shaped leadership decisions throughout history and continue to influence contemporary public safety organizations.
Prepares instructors to teach the five-hour racial and identity profiling course and the two-hour refresher, meeting the requirements of 13519.4 PC and AB 953. Through discussion, exercises, and video, participants demonstrate proficiency with an evaluated teach-back.
A refresher that deepens understanding of racial and identity profiling and the legal, moral, and ethical boundaries around it, covering definitions, legal considerations (the 4th and 14th Amendments and California law), ethics, and community-centered practices.
